§ 101111 Initial Board Term Lengths

This rule tells how long each of the five first‑board members gets to stay in their job, based on the year the district was created.

Key Takeaways

  • •The board has five members total.
  • •Two members serve until the first Monday after Jan 1 of the first odd year after the district is created.
  • •The other three members serve until the first Monday after Jan 1 of the second odd year after the district is created.
  • •The exact end date is the first Monday after Jan 1 of the appropriate year, at noon.

Example

A new district is created in 2022. Five people are put on the first board.

Two of them will serve until the first Monday after Jan 1, 2023. The other three will serve until the first Monday after Jan 1, 2025. After those dates they have to leave the board.

How to Calculate

Term‑end date = first Monday after Jan 1 of the target odd‑numbered year (target year = first odd year after formation year for some members, second odd year after formation year for the others).

  1. Write down the year the district was formed (F).
  2. Find the first odd‑numbered year greater than F. Call it O1.
  3. Find the next odd‑numbered year after O1 (O2 = O1 + 2).
  4. For the two members in group (a), use O1. For the other three members, use O2.
  5. Look at Jan 1 of the chosen year. The term ends at noon on the first Monday that comes after that date.

District formed in 2022.

Result: Two members leave on Jan 2, 2023 at noon; the other three leave on Jan 6, 2025 at noon.
