§ 101101 Director Residency Requirements

This law says that anyone who wants to be a director must live in the district, and people who are already on the board of supervisors or the Bakersfield City Council can’t be chosen for this board.

Key Takeaways

  • •Directors must live in the district they serve.
  • •People who are on the board of supervisors can’t be appointed to this board.
  • •Members of the Bakersfield City Council can’t be appointed to this board.

Example

Jane lives in the district and wants to be a director – she can be appointed. Tom lives in a neighboring district, so he can’t be a director. Maria is a member of the Bakersfield City Council, so even though she lives in the district, she can’t be appointed to the board.

Jane meets the residency rule, so she’s eligible. Tom fails the residency rule, so he’s not eligible. Maria fails the rule that city council members can’t be appointed, so she’s also not eligible.
