§ 13970 Fire District Disability Leaves

Key Takeaways

  • •Firefighters in a fire protection district can get time off instead of money if they get hurt on the job.
  • •This time off is like a break from work while they heal, instead of getting paid for being hurt.
  • •The rule is part of a bigger set of laws about workers getting hurt and what help they get.

Example

A firefighter twists their ankle badly while fighting a fire and can't walk for a few weeks.

Instead of getting paid money while they recover, the firefighter can take time off work until their ankle is better. This is their choice under the law.
