§ 12654 Carrier Permit Exemptions

Key Takeaways

  • •If you have a valid license or permit from the Vehicle Code or Health and Safety Code, you don’t need an extra transportation permit.
  • •This rule applies to both public carriers (like buses or taxis) and private carriers (like delivery trucks).
  • •The law is from 1973, but it’s still in effect.

Example

A delivery truck driver has a valid license from the DMV.

Because the driver already has the right license, they don’t need another permit to drive the truck for work.
