§ 12653 Fireworks Transportation Permits

Key Takeaways

  • •You need a special permit to move fireworks from one place to another if you're crossing city or state lines.
  • •First, get approval from the local fire department where the fireworks are starting their trip.
  • •Then, the State Fire Marshal gives the final permit—no other permits are needed after that.

Example

You buy fireworks in one city and want to take them to another city for a big show.

First, the fire department in the city where you bought the fireworks must say it’s okay. Then, you ask the State Fire Marshal for the permit to move them. Once you have that, you don’t need any more permits, even if you drive through other cities.
