§ 112215 Shellfish Certification Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell shellfish unless they come in a container with a special certificate number.
  • •The certificate must be from a state or country that follows the health rules for shellfish.
  • •These rules are made by the United States Public Health Service to keep shellfish safe to eat.

Example

A seafood seller at a local market tries to sell oysters without any labels or certificates on the container.

This is against the law because the oysters must have a valid certificate number on the container to show they are safe to eat.
