§ 111912 Organic Food Registration Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •The government doesn't have to enforce most rules about organic food.
  • •They only have to keep track of two things: people who check if food is organic and companies that make organic food.
  • •This law has been around since 1996.

Example

A farmer sells vegetables labeled as organic, but they're not really organic.

The government doesn't have to punish the farmer for lying about the vegetables being organic. They only have to keep a list of people and companies who work with organic food.
