Key Takeaways

  • •If someone breaks this law, they might have to pay money every day they keep breaking it.
  • •The fine can be up to $1,000 for each day they don’t stop breaking the law.
  • •Half the money goes to the state and half to the county if the Attorney General sues. If the district attorney sues, all the money goes to the county.

Example

A factory keeps dumping bad stuff into a river even after they’re told to stop.

If the factory doesn’t stop for 5 days, they might have to pay up to $1,000 for each of those 5 days. So, $5,000 total. Half goes to the state and half to the county if the Attorney General sues.
