§ 110655 Export Food Labeling Exemption

Key Takeaways

  • •Food made for export isn't considered 'bad' if it meets the buyer's rules.
  • •The food must follow the laws of the country it's going to.
  • •The package must clearly say it's for export, not for sale in the U.S.
  • •If the food is sold in the U.S. anyway, it must follow all U.S. food rules.

Example

A company in California makes a batch of snacks for Japan.

The snacks are okay to send to Japan if they match what the Japanese buyer asked for, follow Japan's food laws, and the box says 'For Export Only.' But if someone tries to sell these snacks in a U.S. store, they must follow all U.S. food safety rules.
