§ 111720 Cosmetic Export Exemption Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Cosmetics made for export (sending to other countries) have special rules.
  • •They must match what the foreign buyer asked for.
  • •They must follow the laws of the country they're being sent to.
  • •The package must clearly say it's for export only.
  • •If sold in the U.S., these special rules don't apply.

Example

A U.S. company makes lipstick to sell in Japan.

The lipstick must match Japan's order, follow Japan's laws, and have a label saying it's for export. If the company tries to sell it in the U.S. instead, it must follow all U.S. rules.
