§ 6010 Harbor District Formation

This law lets a county, city, or part of them that touches a harbor be turned into a special harbor district so the harbor can be improved or developed.

Key Takeaways

  • •A harbor district can be made from a whole county, a city, or just part of them.
  • •The area must have a harbor on its outer edge.
  • •The district is created only after the proper legal steps are taken.

Example

A small town that sits on a bay wants to build a new dock and better roads for boats.

The town can ask the state to create a harbor district that covers the town and the water area, then follow the required steps to get permission and funding for the improvements.
