§ 77192 Walnut Commission Termination Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If more than half of walnut farmers (who also grow more than half of all walnuts) ask in writing, the walnut group can be shut down.
  • •The request to shut down must happen within 90 days.
  • •People can change their mind and take their name off the request before it’s given to the boss.
  • •The request can be on many papers, but each person must write where they work.

Example

Imagine 100 walnut farmers grow all the walnuts in California. 51 of them (who grow more than half of the walnuts) sign a paper saying they want to stop the walnut group. If they do this in 90 days, the group gets shut down.

The law says if most farmers (by number and walnut amount) agree in writing within 90 days, the walnut group ends.
