§ 41831 Garlic Onion Dehydration Inspection

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't sell or buy garlic or onions for drying unless they've been checked and approved first.
  • •You also can't process (like chop or dry) garlic or onions unless they've been inspected and certified.
  • •This rule is about making sure garlic and onions are safe and good quality before they're dried.

Example

A farmer wants to sell a big batch of onions to a company that dries them to make onion powder.

Before the farmer can sell the onions or the company can start drying them, the onions must be checked by an inspector. If they're not checked first, both the farmer and the company could be breaking the law.
