§ 87428 Residency Requirements For Employees

Key Takeaways

  • •Community colleges can't make teachers or staff live in the same area as the college.
  • •Colleges can't pick teachers or staff just because they live nearby.
  • •No rules can say you must move to the area to work at the college.

Example

A community college wants to hire a new math teacher.

The college can't say 'You must live in this town to get the job' or give the job to someone just because they live closer. They have to pick the best teacher, no matter where they live.
