Key Takeaways

  • •This rule is only for people who started working in certain school jobs before July 1, 1990.
  • •If you're in a special 4-year job at a community college, the school must decide by May 15 of your third year if you can become a regular teacher.
  • •If they say yes, you become a permanent teacher. If they say no, you don’t.
  • •This only applies to people in admin or supervisor jobs that need special certificates.

Example

A person started working as a school administrator on June 15, 1989, and got a 4-year contract. The school board must decide by May 15, 1992, if they can become a regular teacher.

The school has to make a decision before the deadline. If they say yes, the person becomes a permanent teacher. If not, they stay in their admin job or might lose it.
