§ 17428 Cross-District Property Leasing

Key Takeaways

  • •A school can rent or buy land in a nearby school area for things like storage or parking.
  • •The school can sell or get rid of that land the same way they do with their own land.
  • •The school cannot force someone to sell their land; they can only buy if the owner agrees.
  • •The school next door must say it's okay before the land can be bought.

Example

School A wants to buy an empty lot next to School B to store old desks and chairs.

School A can buy the lot if School B’s leaders agree. School A can’t force the owner to sell, and they can sell the lot later if they don’t need it anymore.
