§ 17410 District Site Purchase Elections

Key Takeaways

  • •If most people vote 'Yes' in a special election, the school board can use extra tax money for building or leasing school buildings.
  • •The school board must hold another election to ask voters if they can use the extra tax money for these projects.
  • •The extra tax money can only be used for the things voters approved in the election, like buying land or building schools.

Example

A school district wants to build a new school but needs more money. They ask voters in an election if they can use extra tax money for this project.

If most voters say 'Yes,' the school board can use the extra tax money to buy land and build the new school. If voters say 'No,' the school board cannot use the money for this project.
