§ 8508 Stop Payment Notice Requirements

• •If you don’t do both, the stop payment notice won’t work.

Before you can tell the bank to stop paying them, you must first send a warning letter saying you’re owed money. You also have to send the stop payment notice before the deadline to file a lien (usually 90 days after you finish the job). If you miss either step, the bank won’t stop the payment.
