§ 8502 Stop Payment Notice Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you want to stop payment for work, you must fill out a special form correctly.
  • •The form must say what work was done and how much money is owed for that work.
  • •You can only ask for money that was owed to you up to the day you filled out the form.

Example

You hired someone to fix your roof, but they did a bad job and you don’t want to pay them.

You can fill out a stop payment form, but you must write down what work they did and how much money they should get for the work they actually finished. You can’t ask for money for work they didn’t do yet.
