§ 2801 Water Rights Claim Proofs

Key Takeaways

  • •If you think you have a right to use water from a river or stream, you must show proof when asked.
  • •If you don’t show proof when asked, you might lose your right to use that water.
  • •The board will decide your water rights based on the information they have if you don’t respond.

Example

Imagine you have been using water from a nearby river to water your farm for years. One day, the government sends you a letter asking you to prove that you have the right to use that water.

If you ignore the letter and don’t send in your proof, the government might decide you don’t have the right to use the water anymore. They will only look at the information they already have to decide if you can keep using the water.
