§ 98133 Board Action Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •The board must discuss and vote on rules (called ordinances) in a specific way.
  • •Before making a new rule, they must tell the public by posting it in newspapers or public places at least 15 days before a meeting.
  • •They can't make a new rule on the same day it's first talked about.
  • •A rule only passes if most of the board members vote 'yes'.

Example

The board wants to make a rule that says no dogs are allowed in the park.

They have to tell everyone about the meeting by posting signs or putting it in the newspaper 15 days before. At the meeting, people can say if they like or don't like the rule. The board can't vote on it that day—they have to wait. Later, if most of the board votes 'yes,' the rule passes.
