§ 3902 Household Goods Carrier Registration

Key Takeaways

  • •Truck or bus companies moving stuff or people across state lines must sign up with the state first.
  • •If the company already has permission from the federal government, they must show that to the state.
  • •If the company doesn’t need federal permission, they must swear (in writing) that they don’t need it.
  • •The state will approve the sign-up if the company follows the rules and pays the fees.

Example

A moving truck company wants to drive furniture from California to Nevada for money.

Before they can start driving, they must sign up with California and show they have permission from the federal government to do this kind of work. If they don’t sign up, they can get in trouble.
