§ 26451 City Annexation Election Requirement

Key Takeaways

  • •After the board approves the annexation agreement, the city that wants to join must hold a vote.
  • •The vote is to decide if the city will join the district based on the agreed terms.
  • •This rule was added in 1955.

Example

A small town wants to join a bigger city to get better services like trash pickup and schools.

The big city and the small town make a deal about how things will work if they join. Then, the small town holds a vote so everyone can say 'yes' or 'no' to joining the big city based on that deal.
