§ 15975 Georgetown Divide Ward Elections

Key Takeaways

  • •People running for director in the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District can be elected by smaller areas called wards if the board decides to split the district into these areas.
  • •The wards must have about the same number of people in them, and the county board must agree to the ward boundaries.
  • •If you want to run for director, you can only get signatures from people in your ward.
  • •After every 10-year census, the wards must be checked and changed if needed to keep the number of people in each ward fair.

Example

Imagine the Georgetown Divide Public Utility District is like a big pizza. The board decides to cut the pizza into 4 equal slices so that each slice has about the same number of people. Each slice is a ward.

If you live in one slice (ward) and want to run for director, you can only ask people in your slice to sign your nomination papers. After 10 years, they check if the slices still have the same number of people and adjust them if needed.
