§ 15959 Territorial Unit Designation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a district has multiple areas that aren't part of a city, each area gets a number or name.
  • •The board in charge of the first election gives these areas their numbers or names.
  • •Later, the district's board can change or update these numbers or names if needed.

Example

Imagine a big school district that includes several small towns that aren't officially part of any city. Each of these towns needs to be identified separately for elections and management.

The board running the first election will name or number each town, like 'Town 1,' 'Town 2,' etc. Later, the school district's board can rename them if they want, like changing 'Town 1' to 'Maple Town.'
