§ 105042 Board Voting Requirements

This rule says that if most of the board members (more than half) vote yes, that decision is enough to approve any order, plan, or rule the board looks at, unless the law says something different.

Key Takeaways

  • •A simple majority (more than half) decides what the board does.
  • •The majority vote is enough to pass any order, resolution, or ordinance.
  • •Only if another law says otherwise would a different rule apply.

Example

A city park board wants to approve a new playground. There are 9 board members, and 5 vote to approve it.

Because 5 out of 9 is a majority, the playground plan can go ahead, since the rule says a majority vote is enough unless another law says otherwise.
