§ 1175 Petition Filing In Sections

This law lets a petition be split into separate sections; each section must follow all the normal petition rules, but it doesn't have to have the full number of signatures needed for the whole petition.

Example

A neighborhood wants a new park and needs 5,000 signatures. They file three separate sections of the petition, each with 2,000 signatures.

Because the law allows the petition to be filed in parts, each of the three sections can be accepted even though none of them has the full 5,000 signatures, as long as they all meet the usual filing requirements.

The petition may be filed in sections, each of which shall fully comply with all of the requirements for a petition, except that each section need not contain the total number of signatures required for a petition. (Enacted by Stats. 1935, Ch. 389.)
