§ 1075 Veteran Home Care Access

This law says the department must check how veteran homes are used and also look at health‑care needs for the home’s residents and other veterans nearby, and think about putting VA medical clinics on the home’s grounds or close by.

Key Takeaways

  • •The department must assess the health‑care needs of veteran home residents.
  • •It must also look at the needs of non‑resident veterans living near the home.
  • •The department must consider placing VA satellite clinics on the home campus or within a 30‑minute drive, and must discuss these ideas with VA officials.

Example

A state veteran home in a small town wants to make sure its residents can get medical care without traveling far.

The department will study how many residents need to go to the VA hospital, how many veterans in the town need care, and then talk with the VA about putting a small clinic right on the home’s campus or within a 30‑minute drive.
