§ 80600 Oversight Cost Reimbursement Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If a local agency oversees a cleanup project, the state will pay them back for their costs if there's enough money in the state's account.
  • •The local agency must prove they can't get money from anywhere else to cover their costs.
  • •If there's not enough money in the state's account, the local agency must get their money from the person or group that got the loan for the cleanup.
  • •Before getting a loan for cleanup, the borrower must agree to let the local agency oversee and approve the work.

Example

A gas station owner gets a loan to clean up an old underground tank that leaked.

The local agency watches over the cleanup to make sure it's done right. If the state has enough money, they'll pay the local agency back for their work. If not, the gas station owner has to pay the local agency instead. The owner had to agree to this oversight before getting the loan.
