§ 5009 Sewer Connection Mandate

• •If a town gets a new sewer system, old sewage pits (like cesspools) are not allowed anymore.
• •All houses and buildings where people live or work must connect to the new sewer system.
• •You have 90 days to connect after the sewer system is finished.
• •This rule only applies if your building is within 100 feet of the new sewer system.

A small town builds a new sewer system on Main Street. Your house is 80 feet away and still uses an old cesspool.

You must connect your house to the new sewer system within 90 days after it’s done. If you don’t, you’re breaking the rule because your cesspool is now considered a public nuisance.
