§ 5008 Sewage Water Disposal Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •The district can sell or get rid of water, treated sewage, or other stuff made from cleaning sewage.
  • •They can build and keep pipes or other things to save and use water or treated sewage for farms, factories, or to put water back into the ground.
  • •They can take private land if they really need it for their work, but they have to follow the rules.
  • •They can make deals with the U.S. government to get money or help for their projects.

Example

A town has a sewage treatment plant that cleans dirty water. After cleaning, there is leftover water that is safe to use for watering crops.

The town can sell this clean water to farmers to use on their fields. They can also build pipes to carry the water to the farms. If they need land to build these pipes, they can take it (but they have to pay the owner fairly).
