§ 110670 Food Labeling Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Food labels must follow rules about what they say about nutrients and health benefits.
  • •If a food doesn't follow these rules, it's considered mislabeled.
  • •Some foods don't have to follow these rules if the federal government says they don't need to.

Example

A cereal box says it's 'super healthy and cures colds'.

If the cereal doesn't really do those things, the label is wrong and breaks the rules. The company could get in trouble.
