§ 110665 Food Labeling Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •Food labels must show correct nutrition info, like calories and vitamins.
  • •If a food doesn't follow these label rules, it's considered 'misbranded' (wrongly labeled).
  • •Some foods don't need these labels if the federal government says they don't.

Example

You buy a box of cereal, and the label says it has 100 calories per serving.

If the cereal actually has 200 calories but the label says 100, the label is wrong. The company could get in trouble for not following the rules.
