§ 102775 Death Registration Requirements

This law says that every death has to be recorded with the local birth‑and‑death office within eight days, and you must do it before the body is buried or cremated.

Key Takeaways

  • •You have only eight calendar days to register a death.
  • •Register the death where it was officially declared or where the body was found.
  • •The registration must happen before any burial, cremation, or other handling of the remains.

Example

A grandparent passes away at home and the family wants to have a funeral next week.

The family must go to the local registrar in the area where the grandparent died and file a death registration within eight days, and they can’t bury or cremate the body until that paperwork is done.
