§ 101680 Regional Health Authority Formation

• •Santa Barbara’s board can create a regional health authority by ordinance or resolution.
• •The authority can cover all parts of Santa Barbara County, both cities and unincorporated areas.
• •San Luis Obispo’s board can allow the authority to provide medical services in its county and can have a representative on the authority’s board.

The Santa Barbara board decides to create a health authority that runs a community clinic, and the San Luis Obispo board agrees to let the same authority run a clinic in San Luis Obispo and puts one of its members on the authority’s board.

Because the law gives the Santa Barbara board power to form the authority and the San Luis Obispo board power to let it work in its area and join its board, the authority can operate clinics in both counties.
