§ 101180 Population Determination Rules

This law says the population used for this chapter comes from the latest U.S. census, but if the department thinks a city or county’s population has changed a lot, it can ask the Demographic Research Unit to figure out the new number.

Key Takeaways

  • •Population is normally taken from the most recent U.S. census.
  • •If the department thinks the numbers have changed a lot, it can ask for a new count.
  • •The Demographic Research Unit of the Department of Finance does the new count.

Example

A fast‑growing town hasn’t had a new census count in ten years, and the department notices the town’s schools and roads are getting crowded.

The department can request the Demographic Research Unit to count the town’s current residents, and that new count will be used for the rules in this chapter.
