§ 552 Marine Debris Salvage Practices

This law says the State Lands Commission must write simple rules for cleaning up marine trash by Jan 1 2017, share them online, and can update them later using the same steps.

Key Takeaways

  • •The commission must create the rules by Jan 1 2017.
  • •They have to hold a public meeting and talk with state and local agencies before finalizing the rules.
  • •The rules must be posted on the commission’s website for everyone to see.
  • •The commission can change the rules later, but must follow the same public‑meeting process.

Example

A coastal town wants to clean up a beach full of driftwood and plastic. The town looks up the commission’s rules on the website to know the right way to collect and dispose of the debris.

Because the commission posted the rules online, the town can follow them to safely remove the trash and stay in line with the law.
