§ 1260 Pilotage Rate Change Notice

This law says anyone who wants to ask for a change in pilotage fees must first send a notice of intent to the board and give copies to all the groups that care about those fees.

Key Takeaways

  • •You have to file a notice of intent before you can ask for a rate change.
  • •The notice must be sent to the board and copied to all interested groups, like pilot and vessel‑owner associations.
  • •The notice must clearly describe each new fee or change to an existing fee.

Example

A shipping company wants to add a new safety surcharge to the pilot fees for its vessels.

The company must file a notice of intent with the board, and also send copies to the pilots’ association, the vessel owners’ association, and anyone who was part of the last fee‑setting meeting, explaining the new surcharge.
