§ 9022 Senate Session Opening Procedures

Key Takeaways

  • •On the first day of a regular meeting, the Senate President (or the oldest member if the President is missing) starts the meeting.
  • •They check who’s there and call out each area to see who was elected.
  • •New members show their papers, swear to do their job, and sit down.
  • •If enough members are there (a quorum), they can pick their leaders.

Example

Imagine it’s the first day of school, and the teacher checks who’s in class.

The Senate does the same thing—they call out names, new members prove they were elected, and if enough are there, they start working.
