§ 65033 Public Planning Participation Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •The government wants people to be involved in planning decisions that affect them.
  • •Agencies must hold public meetings and share information so people can give their opinions.
  • •People should have a chance to respond to different plans or ideas before decisions are made.

Example

Your town is planning to build a new park or a shopping mall on empty land near your home.

The town must hold a meeting to tell everyone about the plans and listen to what people think. They have to explain the different options, like where the park or mall could go, and let people say which one they like better.

§ 65033 Public Planning Participation Requirements

The Legislature recognizes the importance of public participation at every level of the planning process. It is therefore the policy of the state and the intent of the Legislature that each state, regional, and local agency concerned in the planning process involve the public through public hearings, informative meetings, publicity and other means available to them, and that at such hearings and other public forums, the public be afforded the opportunity to respond to clearly defined alternative objectives, policies, and actions. (Repealed and added by Stats. 1976, Ch. 1386.)
