§ 61027 District Board Election Process

Key Takeaways

  • •This rule is only for special areas where the county leaders are also in charge, and the area has existed for more than 5 years.
  • •If at least 10% of the voters sign a paper asking for a vote, or if the leaders decide, there will be a vote to choose if leaders should be elected.
  • •If most voters say yes, the area will start having elected leaders.
  • •The voters will also pick the new leaders in the same vote, but those leaders only start if most voters want elected leaders.

Example

Imagine a small town where the county leaders are also in charge of the town’s water system. The town has been around for 10 years.

If 10% of the town’s voters sign a paper asking for a vote, the county leaders must hold a vote. The vote will ask if the town should elect its own leaders for the water system. If most voters say yes, the town will elect new leaders in the same vote. The new leaders only take over if most voters agreed to have elected leaders.
