§ 57353 Detachment Financial Rights Limits

Key Takeaways

  • •If your area leaves a city or district, you don’t get any of their money or property.
  • •You also don’t get any refunds for taxes or fees you paid before the area left.
  • •This rule applies to everyone who lives, owns property, or pays taxes in the area that left.

Example

Your neighborhood votes to leave the city and become its own town.

Even if your neighborhood paid city taxes last year, you won’t get that money back. The city also doesn’t have to give you any of its buildings, equipment, or leftover cash.
