§ 57351 Detached Territory Debt Liability

• •If a piece of land leaves a city, it might still have to help pay the city's old debts.
• •The city can ask the land that left to pay its fair share of the money the city owed before the land left.
• •This only happens if the rules about the land leaving don’t say something different.

A neighborhood leaves a city to join another town. Before it left, the city had borrowed money to build a park.

Even though the neighborhood is no longer part of the city, it might still have to help pay back the money for the park if the city asks for it.
