§ 57328 Annexed Territory Financial Liability

Key Takeaways

  • •If a city or district grows by adding new land, that new land has to help pay for the city's or district's old debts.
  • •The new land might have to pay taxes, fees, or other charges to help cover these debts.
  • •This rule doesn't apply to smaller improvement areas inside the district.

Example

A small town adds a new neighborhood to its borders.

The new neighborhood has to help pay for the town's old debts, like money owed for building schools or roads. They might pay extra taxes or fees to cover these costs.
