§ 56116 District Merger Prohibition

Key Takeaways

  • •A district doesn't automatically disappear just because it's inside a city now.
  • •If a district is completely inside a city, it stays separate unless they officially merge.
  • •To merge a district with a city, they must follow special steps—it doesn’t happen on its own.

Example

A small fire district gets surrounded by a growing city.

Even though the whole fire district is now inside the city, it doesn’t automatically become part of the city. The fire district keeps running on its own unless the city and district leaders follow the official steps to merge them.
