§ 56104 Severability Of Provisions

Key Takeaways

  • •If one part of this law is found to be invalid or doesn't work, the rest of the law can still be used.
  • •The law is designed so that if one piece is broken, it doesn't break the whole thing.
  • •This rule helps keep the law working even if a small part has problems.

Example

Imagine a law about school rules that says kids must wear uniforms and can't bring toys to school. If a judge says the 'no toys' rule is unfair, the uniform rule can still be enforced.

The law is written so that if one rule doesn't work, the other rules still count. So even if 'no toys' is thrown out, kids still have to wear uniforms.
