§ 23273 Boundary Change Argument Selection

Key Takeaways

  • •If lots of people write arguments for or against changing a county's borders, the clerk picks just one 'for' and one 'against' to share with voters.
  • •The clerk picks arguments in this order: first from county leaders, then city leaders, then regular voters or groups.
  • •Only the chosen arguments get printed and sent out to help voters decide.

Example

A town wants to switch to a different county. Many people write letters saying why it’s a good or bad idea.

The clerk will only pick two letters to send to voters—one saying it’s good and one saying it’s bad. They’ll pick from leaders first, like the county board or city council, before picking from regular people.
