§ 22205 Public Employee Retirement Inclusion

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work for a government agency and your job doesn’t have a retirement plan, your bosses can ask to join a bigger retirement plan.
  • •But they can only ask if most of the workers (more than half) vote yes.
  • •This rule was added a long time ago, in 1955.

Example

Imagine you work at a small town’s park office, and your job doesn’t come with a retirement plan.

If most of your coworkers vote yes, your boss can ask the state to let you all join a bigger retirement plan so you can save money for when you’re older.
