§ 21422 Disability Retirement Allowance Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you get hurt and can't work, you might get money to help you retire early.
  • •You'll get back the money you put in while working, spread out over time.
  • •If your boss's money was also put in, you might get extra help, unless you did something really bad (like breaking the law or hurting yourself on purpose).

Example

A firefighter gets badly injured while saving someone and can't work anymore.

The firefighter will get money every month from what they saved up while working. If the injury wasn’t their fault (like they didn’t do something dumb or illegal), they’ll also get extra money from their boss’s contributions.
