§ 21406 Patrol Member Disability Retirement

Key Takeaways

  • •If a patrol member gets hurt on the job and can't work anymore, they get money to help them live.
  • •The money they get is half of what they made before they got hurt.
  • •If they have extra money saved up from their job, they get that too.
  • •If they could get more money by retiring normally (like if they're old enough), they'll get the bigger amount instead.

Example

A police officer gets hurt in a car crash while chasing a bad guy and can't work anymore.

The officer will get half of their usual paycheck every month. If they had extra money saved up from their job, they get that too. If they were almost ready to retire anyway, they might get even more money.
